-9:30am- Small morning blend coffee(16 oz) from Harvard Market.($1.07)
*I had to work until 2am and I needed the caffeine pick me up on my way to class!*
-12:45 pm- Grilled cheese(american singles and white bread), Healthy choice chicken noodle soup (noodles, chicken, carrots, celery, onions)
*This was quick and easy to make and I only had a short amount of time before my next class*

*I have class until 5:30 and knew I would get hungry, this was a fast grab while going out the door!*
-5:15pm- Salad(iceburg lettuce, immitation crab, italian dressing)
*I only had 30 mins before I had to go to work so this was easiest for me to make quickly*
-10:00pm- 3 cheese wontons with sweet and our dipping sauce, and 4 small pieces of chicken with sesame sauce and sesame seeds over them
*I work at a chinese restaurant and get one free meal every shift, this is usually my dinner for the days that I work, we were also extremely busy that night and that meal was the easiest to make and the fastest to eat as well*
Thursday:
-9:00am- 2 pieces of white break with Jiffy honey peanut butter on them, 1/2 cup light and fit strawberry yogurt with real strawberries
-12:30pm- sandwich cooked on george foreman(turkey, humus pepperjack cheese, and lettuce), small bowl of penne pasta with spaghetti sauce
*I had a slightly bigger lunch because I knew I was planning on having dinner with a friend later that night*
-5:00pm- 2.5 cups of light butter popcorn and a glass of fruit punch koolaid
*I was getting a little hungry but didn't want to overeat, so decided on this light snack*
-7:00pm- 3 pork pot stickers with a ginger dipping sauce, 4 pieces of #9 sushi (raw salmon, shrimp, seaweed, white sticky rice, spicy mayo, and soy sauce)($20.00)
*My friend and I went to Fijiya, we're going to be roommates next year and we wanted to have some bonding time together*
Friday:
-10:00am- 1.5 oz bag of Cheetos from Blegen Hall ($1.00)
*I was starving and had class from 9am-1:30pm so I needed something to hold me over until lunch*
-2:00pm- 2 scoops of a hotdish (chicken, stuffing, shredded cheddar cheese, milk, broccoli, salt, pepper), glass of skim milk
*I had to stop over at one of my friends apartments to pick up some things I had left there the night before, she happened to have been making this hotdish and wanted me to try it*
-4:30pm- plain bagel with 2T of whipped cream cheese.
*I needed to clean my apartment because my sister and her boyfriend were coming over from out of town so this was something I chose to eat because I could take a bite and walk away or set it down wherever I was in the apartment)*
-7:00pm- Fake Orgasmo to drink (frothy pineapple drink served inside of a real pineapple that's carved out), piece of mango sushi (mango, caviar, shrimp, sticky white rice, seaweed), piece of tuna sushi (raw tuna, shrimp, sticky white rice, seaweed), piece of salmon sushi (raw salmon, sticky white rice, shrimp, seaweed), 2.5 shrimp tossed in a salt and pepper seasoning and dipped in a plum vinegarette, 1 slice pizza ( pita bread crust, feta cheese, beef, onions, tomatoes, balsamic vinegar, silantro), scallop/beef/chicken/portobella mushroom screwers sided with 3 sauces: peanut, ginger and chili. ($0.00, my sister covered everything :)!
*I went to Chino Latino's with my sister, her boyfriend, and my friend Ashley came with as well. We each ordered a dish to share and did just that.*
This was a usual week of eating for me because I went out to eat twice during 2/3 days and I usually don't go out to eat very often at all, I also consume far more coffee than I did during this post as well. Finally, as a side note, if not otherwise listed I always have at least a glass or 2 of water with every meal or snack.
An Omnivore's Delight—Jim C's Food Log
Friday, March 5
• This is my typical breakfast. It's usually the same every morning with an occasional change in type of ready-to-eat cereal and eaten at home while reading the Star Tribune. My morning well-being depends on having a satisfying and nutritious breakfast. Friday I ate one banana, one orange, 2-oz. of Fiber One cereal, 8-oz. skim milk, a few prunes, and a cup of green tea.
• I drank one cup of coffee for a mid-morning break, also at home.
• For lunch, also at home, I drank two, 12-oz. cups of my special hot cocoa made with cocoa, malted milk powder, Sucralose, and a blend of skim milk and soy or almond milk. This concoction satisfies my midday hunger and boosts my calcium intake.
• Every day, I run six miles. About two-thirds of the way I stop at McDonald's for a snack, which is my reward for keeping up with daily running. Along with a cup of McDonald's coffee, I ate two Kashi Granola Bars and drank 12-oz. of a soy-skim milk beverage. (The last two items are mine, not McDonald's.) The McDonald's, at NE University and Broadway, is a convenient location and sells inexpensive coffee. I also use this break to read a section or two of the Star Tribune.
• Before dinner, I drank a couple glasses of red wine while listening to Marketplace on MPR and reading The Omnivore's Dilemma. This is my winding down phase.
• Dinner at home is around 8 P.M. and consisted of a mountainous salad of spinach, broccoli, carrots, onions, tomatoes, a sliced apple, edamame (soybeans), canned salmon, beans, and peas slathered with balsamic vinegar. The meal also included 8-oz. of skim milk. For dessert, I ate four slices of toasted whole wheat bread with a small amount of "natural" peanut butter (my favorite food) and low-sugar jam. I read the Star Tribune while eating. I wrapped up dinner and the day with a cup of green tea.
Saturday, March 6
• My meals and other activities were essentially the same as Friday's.
Sunday, March 7
• Breakfast was the same as Friday's.
• My mid-morning run and McDonald's coffee and snack break were the same as Friday's.
• At noon, I drank the hot cocoa described Friday.
• For a mid-afternoon break, I drank two cups of green tea while listening to the new Osmo Vänskä The Sound of Sibelius SACD.
• At 5 P.M., while listening to Marketplace Money on MPR, I drank two glasses of red wine.
• Sunday dinner is my weekly cooking extravagance. Today I prepared a stovetop casserole consisting of sweet potatoes, Roma tomatoes, onion, tuna, tofu, broccoli, mushrooms, mixed olives, sweet red peppers, and Newman's Own red pasta sauce. I enjoyed my feast with a glass of skim milk and the Sunday Star Tribune. I finished off dinner and the day with a cup of green tea.

10:00 pm or so? (on couch with roomie and others. too much baileys and hot chocolate gets too sweet. will drink with coffee next time.)
2 cups hot chocolate
3 shots of Bailey's
What goes in my stomach
7:45 am: 1 cup of Starbucks House Blend coffee, black (I have a major caffeine dependency, as you'll quickly notice. I make coffee in my room and this is my current blend of choice, which I always drink black so I won't note that in the rest of the log. I'm not usually hungry first thing in the morning so I don't eat breakfast).
11:30 am: 3 Target brand graham crackers, garlic hummus on 12-grain bread, water (I pack or buy a lunch on Tuesdays because my schedule doesn't really give me time to go back to my dorm. This week I packed, so this was what was in my room that day).
1:30 pm: 1 cup of Starbucks House Blend coffee (tired after having class all morning, stopped back in my room before afternoon lab and class).
3:45 pm: Handful of Tostitos white corn chips, Target brand medium chunky salsa (snack time, bought some corn chips to eat with the huge jar of delicious salsa in my room).
6:00 pm: Pita sandwich with cheddar, provolone, lettuce, onions, sprouts, green peppers, mayo and brown mustard, mashed potatoes, small bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch with 1% milk, glass of 1% milk (Ate dinner at my dorm--Middlebrook UDS actually has a really good sandwich bar so I eat that a lot, the rest of the food was also from UDS. Note that I drink 1% milk--the dining hall only has 2% and skim so I mix them half and half. Cuz that's how I like it).
9:30 pm: Cup of Target brand limeade from concentrate (thirsty, so good).
10:00 pm: 1 cup of Starbucks House Blend coffee (tired again and need to do homework).
11:30 pm: Probably one slice of homemade key lime pie (Mom gave me a chunk of key lime pie and I shared it with a few people so I'm not sure how much I actually ate).
1:00 am: Target brand oatmeal with brown sugar, cinnamon, and raisins (having a homework party, my roommates and I always have oatmeal around and like to share it with people).
3/3
8:30 am: 1 cup of Starbucks House Blend coffee (good morning!)
11:45 am: 1 stick of string cheese (I was writing a paper back at my dorm and UDS did not sound appealing at all. I was planning to eat more later but by the time I remembered that it was almost dinnertime anyway).
5:30 pm: 3 Target brand graham crackers, 1/2 slice of pepperoni pizza, wrap with spinach tortilla, lettuce, tomato, bleu cheese, bacon, and buffalo sauce, rice krispy bar, cup of 1% milk, small bowl of mint chocolate chip ice cream (all but the graham crackers were from UDS. I was super hungry after failing at eating all day, so I had a few graham crackers before we went down to dinner. Also the wraps at UDS are really good, I eat them pretty much every day).
6:30 pm: 1 cup of Starbucks House Blend coffee (post-dinner coffee, yum).
11:30 pm: Handful of Tostitos corn chips, Target brand salsa (midnight snack time in my room).
3/4
7:45 am: 1 cup of Starbucks House Blend coffee (morning...)
11:30 am: Wrap with spinach tortilla, lettuce, cheese, tomato and honey mustard, pasta with carrots, tofu, mushrooms, peapods and peanut sauce, cup of peach chunks, glass of 1% milk (UDS lunch with some friends).
3:45 pm: 1 cup of Starbucks House Blend coffee, handful of Tostitos corn chips (mid-afternoon coffee and snack time while doing homework).
6:00 pm: Slice of white pizza with black olives, English muffin with butter, 1/4 pita with hummus, sprouts, and tomato, rice krispy bar, glass of 1% milk (dinner at UDS, actually pretty good that day. I noticed that pretty much all my food was white. That wasn't on purpose.)
8:30 pm: Handful of Tostitos corn chips with lime juice, glass of 1% milk (still working through the bag of chips I bought on Tuesday, decided to make my own lime chips, they're good that way. I was thirsty so I drank some milk too).
9:00pm-12:00 am: 2 cups of lemon tea with honey, 3 chicken nuggets with honey (my friends and I make a lot of tea when we study together. I personally like a little bit of sweetener and honey is perfect. Someone brought a box of frozen chicken nuggets to share, turns out those are also really good with honey.)

Comida
Wednesday
8:20 AM- 2 cups of Rice Chex cereal with a small sliced banana and 1 cup of skim milk. I live in the dorms and hardly have any food in my room, since I have a meal plan. Cereal works before morning class when I don’t have time to get food at the dining hall.
9:00 AM- 20 oz. Chocolate Almond flavored black coffee from Java City with ¼ cup skim milk and 4 packets of Sweet n’ Low artificial sweetener. I need my coffee at this time on Wednesdays to keep me awake through my three hour class.
11:40 AM- 3 oz. baby carrots, small plastic cup of pineapple, spicy tuna sushi roll with avocado, seaweed, white sticky rice, ginger, and a few sesame seeds. I grab a quick lunch in the café inside the nursing school where I have two classes within 20 minutes of one another.
3:30 PM- A few handfuls of dried fruit: papaya, raisins, banana chips, and pineapple. Quick snack before my lecture.
5:30 PM- Glass of water, 6 oz. chicken, tofu salad, broccoli, apple, and a pear. The dining hall food isn’t the most appealing in the world.
6:40 PM- Charms Blow-Pop Sucker. It was laying around and I can never say no to sugar.
8:00 PM- Bottle of water.
Thursday
8:30 AM- 2 cups of Rice Chex cereal with 1 cup of skim milk, banana, and a pear.
11:30 AM- Bowl of jello, kidney beans, mixed vegetables, half glass of Coke Zero.
1:00 PM- 20 oz Vanilla Hazelnut flavored black coffe with ¼ cup skim milk and 3 packets of Sweet n’ Low artificial sweetener. Much needed caffeine to pull me through the day.
2:00 PM- Apple, bottle of water.
4:30 PM- Charms Blow-Pop Sucker.
5:00 PM- Small glass of skim chocolate milk. (THE BEST creation ever.)
6:00 PM- Six sushi rolls: Vegetable, Crab, and Shrimp, cooked carrots, banana, salad with tofu, and 2 oranges. Sushi in the dining halls is hardly legit, but it was a nice change from the usual.
9:00 PM- Pretzels with peanut butter, 4 chocolate Hershey’s kisses. I was feeling a little hungry/I didn’t want to do homework.
Friday
8:00 AM- 2 cups of Rice Chex with 1 cup of chocolate skim milk.
12:30 PM- Tofu salad, sautéed squash, pear, and an orange. Just an FYI: My salads are monstrous and piled high with tons of vegetables/black beans/raisins. Yummmm!
2:00 PM- 20 oz. coffee to allow me to study and sit through Physiology lecture.
5:00 PM- White fish, raw vegetables with hummus, vanilla yogurt with granola in the dining hall.
9:45 PM- A bottle of Diet Dr. Pepper and a bunch of candy, because I went to Alice in Wonderland with a bunch of friends and candy is a must for any movie.
Food Lover
Tuesday
7:00 AM small glass of orange juice, tropicana some pulp. Bowl of Oatmeal (small) with blueberries at home in the living room
A Very Cherry Snapple Punche Liters at 10 AM 12PM at home. thirsty in living room
11:00 am Five O'live juice from concentrate like the majority of fruit juices, still enjoy it though. Small glass, taste better than OJ sometimes
1:42 Cherry Tea. ( I did it because this food journal made me thirsty. In fact, it makes me want to plan what I am going to eat hours in advance. i.e. Next entry... I also believe this journal could have the reverse impact where a subject eats less and constantly watches it.)
4:00 Thai Chicken Peanut Pasta (noodles, peanut butter, vinegar, carrots, green onions, peanuts, soy sause, vegtable oil etc) small bowl of it. Also, Glacier Freeze Gatorade (high fructose corn syrup. salts) This was pretty much lunch to me. I like to keep my servings small (like Dan Buettner suggests - eat until your 80 percent full, keep it healthy)
4:35 Four slices of corn beef (no bread). Tall glass of five o live, two bananas. Didn't eat much until four, so I am still hungry. Waiting to have more peanut pasta later before bedtime.
6:45 Lemon juice salad with goat cheese, spinach, blueberries, pineapple and strawberries - Large bowl. Another tall glass of Five alive. This salad is amazing, try it.
8:40 Another banana and five o live. This is the worst banana! Small doses of food works for me. My brother says I eat like a bird.
Explanation:
I didn't go to school or work today. I've been awake since as long as I can remember yesterday. I didn't really do anything today but go to the grocery store/pharmacy, walk my dog and tried to study. I usually eat this way unless its a holiday.
Wednesday
One liter of tap water 9:05-2:30 necessary, daily routine when at school. Often refill it. morning class, bus, st. paul campus
Lunch (11:15) - Corn beef sandwich (five thin slices, goat cheese, spinach, mayo, nine grade bread) and banana ate at Magrath library smart commons. Necessary quality meal during long day. Damnit, I had an avocado and I didn't put in it my sandwich, biggest mistake of the day.
2:30 New Belgium Ranger IPA 12 oz , thirsty
2:54 Ranger IPA, this might be my new beer. Hopefully my brother doesn't like it, if he does I'll be drinking less beer (he's 6'4 230 and enjoys drinking my beer)
5:10 Ranger IPA. goat cheese and crackers, my brother snuck a beer from the six pack
5:29 Ranger IPA
6:00 Family dinner with 2% milk with Pot roast ( chuck roast, pepper, olive oil, beef stock, dry red wine, parsley, salt, yellow onions, carrot chunks, potatoes, tomatoes, celery, broccoli, peas) this dinner is a must have because it is a winter meal. Large bowl. My brother (the sociopath/nariccist) wouldn't quit bitching about hour sour it was. He pretty much ruined what could have been a good meal, but that is typical. The pot roast was still great.
8:00 glass of five o live and bowl of fruit salad wtih avacado and mint.
9:00 glass of five o live
Explanation: This is a regular day for me. I drink beer a few times a week days a week.
Thursday
1 liter of water through out the day.
Lunch 11:30 Corn beef sandwich, same as yesterday in the Walter smart commons. Hungry.
3:30 Huckleberry raspberry banana shake. Tall glass, huckleberry and raspberry jam and a banana. I really enjoy this shake and that is why I made it.
4:15 small Bowl of pot roast, handful of craisins and two glasses of lemonade. I was still hungry.
6:25 Chipolte Chicken burrito (one half) family dinner. Didn't think it was that good considering everything else I have eaten the past few days. I can see why I don't go there often now.
7:45 Sierra Nevada torpedo IPA 12 oz. I had to get back at my brother for taking mine yesterday
8:45 Summit Pilsner Ale 12 oz. thirsty.
Explanation: If I could have done one thing differently today I would have not eaten Chipolte and eaten a salad. That would have been much better for me
What Lindsay Eats
Wednesday, March 3, 2010
7:15am: Brother’s All Natural Fruit & Oats
(It fits into my healthy eating plan and it is convenient to make in the morning when I am crunched for time.)
9:45am: Small Café Mocha from Java City in Blegen Hall - $3.44
(I have recently decided I like coffee. I pass this place on my way to catch the bus to work and thought I could use a mid-morning coffee break.)
12:15pm: Greek salad and Stacy’s Pita Chips
(When I work I have access to a fridge during the day so I bring something healthy from home like a salad that can be kept cold. The pita chips add a nice crunch.)
5:30pm: Smart Ones Beef & Asian Style Vegetables and a Granny Smith apple with peanut butter
(I knew I would be at school all day so I had to bring something that would stay edible and that I could pop into the microwave in the student lounge. The apple is a good way to add fruit to my diet.)
Thursday, March 4, 2010
7:15am: Chocolate Cherrios with a sliced banana and 1% milk
(A quick, low calorie and delicious breakfast since I don’t have much time but still want to be healthy.)
10:45am: Cherry Lifesaver
(Hunger started to set in and I needed something to hold me over until lunch since I was still sitting in class.)
11:30am: Smart Ones Santa Fe Rice & Beans and one cup of red grapes
(T/Th I don’t have much time for lunch so I know to bring something I can pop in the microwave and enjoy in less than 20 minutes. In addition, the frozen entrée is portion controlled and just the right amount of calories.)
3:00pm: ¼ cup peanuts
(Snack time. Easy to pack and bring in my backpack for the day.)
7:00pm: Five Tyson chicken nuggets and Annie’s Organic White Cheddar Macaroni & Cheese with a glass of 1% milk
(Since I knew my boyfriend was going to be over for dinner I needed to make something for two people and mac & cheese is perfect because I can never eat the whole box by myself. Chicken nuggets are just a logical complement.)
7:35pm: Reese’s miniature dark chocolate peanut butter cup
(A tasty dessert with just the right amount of calories.)
Friday, March 5, 2010
7:15am: Honey-nut Cheerios with sliced grapes and 1% milk
(A quick and nutritious breakfast.)
10:30am: Crystal Light On-the-go Raspberry Lemonade
(My stomach told me I was hungry but since it wasn’t lunch time I thought I might only be thirsty so I had something to drink instead.)
12:00pm: Greek salad and Stacy’s Pita Chips
(Again, I was at work so I could bring something that needed refrigeration. The salad helps me get all the vegetables I need and is also tasty.)
4:00pm: Orange
(I knew I wasn’t going to be able to wait to eat a late dinner with my boyfriend so I had a snack. The orange added fruit to my diet while still being low-cal.)
6:30pm: 2 eggs, 2 slices of bacon and breakfast potatoes
(My boyfriend was over again so I decided to use up the bacon that had been sitting in the fridge for awhile. He loves bacon and I didn’t want it to go bad. I added in the other ingredients to make breakfast for dinner.)
7:30pm: Starburst
(My sweet tooth was making me crave something sugary. They were lying around from earlier this week when I got them as a free giveaway.)
Laura's Food Diary
A note about almost all my meals: I am a PSEO student, so I live at home and therefore eat most of my meals there (all "where's" are my house unless otherwise specified). I also can’t really cook at all, which is the reason a ton of my meals are like “peanut butter, vegetables”. So, nearly all my “whys” are “I was home and was hungry and ate the least cooking-intensive item”. Just thought I’d clarify.
Wednesday 3/3:
9: 20 am: several handfuls of raisins, 1 cup of tea, 1 apple pop tart (ate it at my house for breakfast because it was quick and I woke up late)
4:00 pm: 1 bowl amy’s tortalini with pesto, I cup milk, several more handfuls of raisins (at my house, easy lunch–late because I had debate practice and so couldn’t eat earlier)
9:20 pm: several wheatthins, 1 cup water with ice, carrots and dill dip, 1 english muffin with steamed spinach and butter (at my house, easy dinner, late because I took a really really long nap after lunch)
1:00–3:00 am: several more handfuls of wheatthins, two cups orange juice (late snacks while writing a paper)
Thursday 3/4:
8:20 am: 1 apple pop tart, 1 large cup of milk (my house, easy breakfast)
11:45 am: 1 spoonful of organic peanut butter, ½ a carrot, 1 bowl nachos with salsa, 1 cup milk, 1 handful of raisins (easy lunch, random assortment of foods because I can’t cook, my house)
4:00 pm: I handful of raisins, 1 glass of orange juice/fizzy water (post-nap snack, my house)
5:20 pm: 1 english muffin with steamed spinach and butter (light dinner pre-dog walk, my house)
8:30 pm: 1 Pizza Luce ultimate veggie hoagie, 2 cups of milk, 1 luna bar (out for dinner with the debate team, decided to splurge because I found money in my pants)
Friday 3/5:
9:15 am: 1 apple pop tart, I cup of milk (quick breakfast cause I woke up late again)
11:30 am: 1 apple, several raisins, 1 pack thai noodle package, one cup of milk (quick lunch, not super hungry so didn’t feel like finding anything more nutritious)
4:30 pm: 2 spoonfuls of peanut butter, several handfuls of raiseis, 1 cup of milk (post nap snack)
6:30 pm: several handfuls of raisins, cucumber with dill dip, fried potatoes and onions with ketchup, steamed spinach (mom made potatoes so I ate them, otherwise average lazy diner, my house)
11:30 pm: 1 bag munchies brand snack (went out with friends and bought a bunch of horrible food to eat during a movie. They were tasty).
Food Journal
Breakfast: 0600 Two Belgian waffles (Krustez brand) and a generous helping of Mrs. Butterworth's syrup along with 3 16oz. glasses of milk to wash it down. (2 glasses white and 1 glass chocolate, both Lunds/Byerly's brand). I ate them at my house in Wayzata because I'm a commuter, and I ate at 6 so that I could catch the bus on time to get to class on time.
Lunch: 1330 One blueberry bagel (1st National Bagel Company brand) with Super Chunky Skippy Peanut Butter on both halves and about 12oz of water from my water bottle. I usually bring this for lunch during the week because it is a lot cheaper than going out to eat or going to the res. halls. I had to wait until after physics lab was over in order to eat and then I went to the Vincent Hall to eat it and work on homework with a friend.
Dinner: 2200 Once I got home from my student group meeting, I was able to eat dinner. I had some left over pasta and meatballs with brown gravy drizzled on top. It ended up being a plate full (Simeks brand meat balls and spiral shaped Barilla brand pasta). I also 2 glasses of Lunds/Byerly's white milk to drink.
Thur. 3/4
Breakfast: 0600 Two Belgian waffles (Krustez brand) and Mrs. B's syrup along with 2 16oz. glasses of white milk to wash it down. (Lunds/Byerly's brand). I didn't have chocolate milk today because we ran out. I ate at my house and today I had my group physics test at 0800.
Lunch: 1230 I ate 1 blueberry bagel (same brand as before) along with the super chunky peanut butter I mentioned that I ate on Wed. I was in Walter Library writing my physics lab report and I was hungry. As I worked on my lab report I had occasional sips of water which amounted to around 16oz.
Dinner: 1845 For dinner at my house, I ate 8 mini beef tacos (Trader Joes brand) along with some Dutch Crunch Jalapeno and Cheddar Chips a fresh banana and 3 16oz. glasses of Lunds/Byerlys brand white milk. Instead of eating around 1730 I decided to go on a run and thought that eating dinner before wouldn't be smart.
Fri. 3/5
Breakfast: 0600 Just like every other day... Two Belgian waffles (Krustez brand) and Mrs. B's syrup along with 2 16oz. glasses of white milk. (Lunds/Byerly's brand). Again, no chocolate milk. Once again I ate at my house and today I had the 2nd part of the physics test at 0800.
Lunch: 1230 Its Friday and I go to Comstock with one of my friends before our Chem. Lab. Our lab is at 1325 and we get out of chem. lecture at 1205 so we eat in between. I ate roasted/seasoned turkey breast, waffle fries, a turkey/salami sandwich, a bowl of Trix cereal, and a rice krispy bar, a brownie, and a caramel/choc. chip cookie. I tend to eat a lot on friday because there is so much food at dining halls. I had 2 12oz glasses of chocolate milk to make up for what I missed at breakfast the last two days.
Dinner: 1700 I went out to dinner at Punch Pizza with a couple of friends before the Gopher Hockey game which started at 1900 at the Target Center. I ordered a Napoli Pepperoni pizza and I had a glass of water to drink (around 24oz). I could only eat half a pizza because of my large lunch.
After the game, 2200, I went to Coldstone with some friends in Minneapolis and got a like it size of Oreo Overload!

What I'm eating
~8:30 am- Small bowl of off-brand Honey Nut Cheerios in my apartment because I'm a bit hungry. Bring a thermos of coffee with me to my anatomy class for the caffeine.
11:45 am- Leftover grilled chicken breast and carrots for lunch in my apartment, because I'm getting hungry again. Drink water, because I'm out of juice and I don't like drinking milk because I'm lactose intolerant, so I'd have to take a lactase supplement with it (like I did for my cereal earlier).
4:30 pm- Chipotle chips and guacamole at Folwell at the Hindi/Urdu conversation club I'm a part of, because its free and delicious. Then a piece of gum because I figured I probably had guac-breath.
6:15pm- Salad with lettuce, spinach, carrots and fried onions, beef and rice soup, an apple, and a strawberry frozen yogurt cone. At Comstock UDS with my co-workers after our staff meeting. Because I need dinner but am feeling too lazy to cook.
9 pm- Bag of Skittles (the purple bag), because they are yummy.
10:30 pm- 1/2 an order of Spinach and Artichoke dip with friends and coworkers at Applebee's. Because it's fun, tastes good and is 1/2 priced after 9.
3/4
9:15 am- Small bowl of off-brand Honey Nut Cheerios, a handful of unsalted raw almonds and a glass of Nature's Bounty apple juice, in my apartment. I hungry, and am have a craving for raw almonds.
11:30 am- Honey mustard pork, spinach salad with carrots, an orange, brownie and orange/apple berry juice at Sanford's UDS. I feel like I should eat lunch, so I'm not super hungry later.
5:30 pm- The left over chips at Hindi from the Hindi/Urdu conversation club from the day before. Again, because they are delicious and free.
9:30pm- Samples of international foods at Yudof Hall. I've tried a bit of crepe with nutella, some Korean beef stew, white rice, humus and pita bread, halwa, some sort of Chilian stew and probably more stuff I can't remember. I went because I haven't eaten a proper dinner yet, and I'm a CA, so its kinda my job to support these sort of things.

Blog Posting #5 (due Sunday 3/7, 11:59 P.M.): FOOD JOURNAL!
Choose two to three days (preferably three), between now and Sunday, and during those days, keep track of everything you eat and drink (or, as Robin so colorfully put it, pretty much "everything you put in your mouth"!). You'll probably want to carry some kind of pad or notebook around with you, so you can record as you go.
Specifically, keep track of:
a) what you eat (ingredients? brands? how much? etc.);
b) when you eat it (at what times? how regularly? how does eating fit into the rhythm/arrythym of your work days? and your non-work days?);
c) where you eat it (at home? bag lunch in the office? fast food? local community-owned cafe? where you do spend your money, and how much?); and
4) why you eat it (simply, not metaphysically -- for example, "I ate at McDonald's because I had a class in 20 minutes and it was the only restaurant that was around/could serve me fast enough/I could afford.").
At the end of those two or three days, record your results here on the blog. Probably best to do it in chronological order, event by event, day by day.
Finally, comment on at least one other food journal (preferably more than one, if you have time!), analyzing your colleagues' food-lives and seeing what kind of insights you can draw. Use part one of The Omnivore's Dilemma (the reading assignment for next Tuesday) to guide you.
And of course, get in touch with your colleagues and/or Robin and/or me if you have any questions. Happy eating!

biology in a 5 sex classification
How does a five sex classification help to understand humanity from a biological perspective when in order for reproduction only two sexes are required (union of gametes)?
It seems the only reason to switch to this system is to make the 1.7% of the population feel like they fit into one of our Cartesian boxes.
any thoughts?

Life is Full of Beauty and Illusions
I’m sure many can relate with me when I say that my dreams have been so vivid and lucid at times that I’ve sometimes found myself hesitating when trying to recall if the events within the dream had actually occurred or not, even after I’d been awake for hours already and had gone about my day. Similarly, I’m able to remind myself of the desperation and agony some dreams were able to cause me to feel, where I remember wishing so hard that I could just wake up from the all too corporeal situation I had temporarily believed to be reality. Another example that immediately came to mind was the phenomenon of déjà vu—that strange, eerie, limited moment in time when you swear you have been in a particular spot and had already lived through an exact event previously. It is instants like these that allow me to get a glimpse into Descartes’ lack of confidence in a concise consciousness argument.
When he makes the point that what we witness in sleep is very much based on realistic representations, he ties the images of what is true and false together, and shows how they depend on one another to exist in order to form what we have always thought of as being the present existence. We aren’t able to recognize an absolute concreteness until we are able to distinguish between real life and illusion. Is it reasonable to say that there is a definite reality when we don’t know for sure what happens after this portion of our so called “being” is up, and is it because of our Cartesian ways that we have all come to accept a universal form of entity? No one can really be certain.
Is the Glass Half Empty or Half Full?
There is a quote on page 93 of Sexing the Body which really made me think about the idea of only male and only female, the Cartesian part in all of us which is displayed from the moment a child is born; It reads, "Should," he wondered, "this patient be allowed to grow up as male... even if[surgery] shows the gonads to be female?" This quote really displays how human perception is so altered by the notion of something only being one way or the other, how Cartesian viewpoints can so strongly influence ideas on the way life should be. I believe being Cartesian does allow us to function better as a society in most aspects of life- keeping peace and order in giving us a way to feel safe and comfortable with labels and the idea that we have control over this thing that we call our body. However, as my title points out, everything can never be seen as one way or the other. Some people believe a glass is half empty while another person may be gun-ho on the notion that it's half full. I believe we can never unCartesian, it's a quality that we've all possessed for such a long time, especially when speaking about gender. But I do believe we can and should push ourselves to try and except other way of looking at life and our surroundings. I think we can be more aware of our perception of things and use that to realize that there could possibly be more than 2 genders, and that there is nothing wrong with that. We need to learn to not fear what we do not know, but instead embrace these uncertainties and with patience and time try to understand all possibilities considering subjects such as gender.
