I would say the author's agenda is to sell more books. In the authors message section I have trouble with the statements about the people of the year 2100. The author says that they will be richer but doesn't say why. He also says that they will demand more energy which I believe. Then he says there will be a much smaller global population and once again doesn't say why or how.
When an author makes statements like this he should always back them up with facts. No one knows what the world will be like in 90 years and if people such as Michael Crichton believe they have an idea of what it is like then they should always back it up with something.
